March Greetings from Pastor Matthew PDF Print E-mail

At last, spring is right around the corner, at least I hope so, and so is Lent.  This Tuesday, March 8 is Shrove Tuesday, and we will celebrate with our annual Pancake Supper and Talent show at 6:30 p.m.  Brush off that harmonica and practice your baton twirls; this is always a pleasant evening for adults and children alike.

Lent begins with Ash Wednesday Service, this Wednesday, March 9.  As in past years, Calvary will offer day-time Lenten services at 1:00 during the usual Wednesday Bible Study time including Ash Wednesday and Wednesdays throughout Lent.  Evening Ash Wednesday service will begin at 7:00 p.m. You may bring your last year’s palms to church on Sunday or on Shrove Tuesday.   They will be burned to make the ashes for Ash Wednesday.

Soup Suppers begin on Wednesday, March 16.  Soup Supper is at 6:15 and evening Lenten services will begin at 7:00.   Please join us for soup supper and service throughout the season of Lent.

This years Lenten services will feature a series called “By Faith”.  We will consider the faith of Noah, Abraham, Moses, the Israelites and Jesus, as well as have reflections for discussion about our own faith.  We will not be using the Holden Evening Prayer service this time.  The service will consist of several hymns, Bible readings, a “By Faith” message, some discussion questions and prayer.  These evenings will draw us into deeper and more meaningful faith for our lives as we prepare to ponder and celebrate the events of Jesus’ Passion and Resurrection.

Holy Week begins Sunday, April 17 with Palm Sunday/Passion Sunday.  Palm Sunday service will feature a Cantata, sung by the choir with accompanying readings.  The cantata is called “Lenten Sketches”.

There will be …
· Maundy Thursday, (4/21) 7:00 pm
· Good Friday (4/22),  7:00 pm
· Easter Vigil (4/23)  - 9:00 pm
· Easter Sunday (4/24) - 8:30 & 10:30
· Easter Breakfast—8:00—10:00

May we all walk by Faith throughout the season in Lent and live out our lives by the life, death, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.

In God’s Peace,
Pastor Matthew
