Calvary Lutheran Church involves our wonderful high school and slightly more middle school youth in worship and monthly youth events. Our youth program has found new vitality and growth with Micah G's leadership. With his public school teaching and youth worker experience, he is eager to connect with the youth and to share the love of Christ with them. We are grateful for his presence as well as for the support and participation of parents and other young adults who chaperone events. Some recent events include laser tag, an overnight "lock-in" and leading Bingo at a nearby assisted living facility. Micah weaves fun activities with Bible Study and devotions all in an atmosphere of respect for each other.

This summer has been great with youth involvement. Becky B and I planned a Beach trip and pool party. We had many kids involved and had a great time. Becky brought her grill out to the beach and we grilled brats and hotdogs. The youth waded in the water, constructed a canal, and played a little "ultimate frisbee." Thanks to Michelle P for also driving and helping out.
The pool was filled with youth swim-ming at Judy W's house. We had a great time. Thanks again to Judy for letting us invade your pool. Thanks to Shari Y, Pastor, and Kim Mfor bringing kids and helping out.
This makes me very excited for the fall and planning for fun events. I think the most important part of working with the youth is providing a positive and safe envi-ronment where they can just have fun.
It seems that youth have many pres-sures to deal with in their life at the middle school and high school age. I am hoping that pro-viding different opportunities at church will help them grow in faith and becoming an overall good person.
A youth committee will be meeting August 29th after church. Anyone is welcome to come and give input or be part of the committee. I am excited to work with a team. In the past I have just planned things on my owned and that wasn't very fun.
Stay tuned for the next newsletter to find out what is planned for the fall.
