Dinner Preparers: 2 or 3 volunteers, prior to 6 pm
Dinner preparers provide the hot meal to be served to Family Bridge guests. The meal may be cooked at home and delivered to the church or cooked in the congregation kitchen. The meal needs to arrive at church at approximately 5 pm; as dinner is served at 6pm.The meal preparers dish the food for serving and place it on the dinning table for guests to serve themselves family “style”.
A dinner preparer may provide a portion of the meal i.e.; main entrée, vegetable/salad, bread or dessert or can provide the entire meal.
Dinner preparers may be individuals, families, bible study groups, men’s groups etc.
Guests will clean up after dinner and wash the dishes. Many dinner preparers provide disposable plates and flatware to make clean-up easier.
-
Dinner and Evening Hosts: 2 volunteers, 5:30 – 8:00 pm
Dinner hosts may also be the dinner preparers. Or they may arrive prior to 6 pm to eat with the guests. Dinner is informal. The hosts socialize with the guests, assist parents with children’s needs and welcome newcomers.
After dinner the evening hosts might conduct children’s activities, help with homework or assist a guest with a particular need. The guests have had long days and may just want to relax or turn in early. Others might have a car and can leave as long as they check out and return prior to 9 pm.
-
Overnight Hosts: 2 volunteers. 1 man and 1 woman, 8:00 pm – 7:00 am
The two overnight hosts spend the night at the church. They spend time with the guests, help older children with homework and are available in the event of an emergency. The overnight hosts lock the church at 9:00 pm and lights out at 10:00 pm. They wake the guest at 6:00 am so they have time to get ready for transportation to the Day House at 7:00 am.
The overnight hosts on the last day of the rotation make sure the guests bedding and personal effects are staged in the North Fellowship room for transport to the next hosting church.
-
“On Call” Overnight Hosts:
The “On Call” Overnight Hosts are 1 man and 1 woman who agree to be on call for the week of Calvary’s rotation. The “On Call” hosts would fill in should the scheduled overnight host(s) not be able to participate due to illness or emergency.
These hosts would agree to be available on short notice to fill an overnight vacancy. They would serve for the week of rotation and only be called if the regularly scheduled host(s) could not participate.
-
Transportation:
The transportation volunteers pick up the guests at the Day House each afternoon at 5:00 pm and transport to Calvary. Wednesday is the exception as the guests eat dinner at the Day House and need transportation at 8:00 pm. They pick up the guests each morning at 7:00 am and return them to the Day House.
-
Setup and Takedown:
These volunteers arrange to receive the bedding and personal items that will be delivered by the previous rotation church on Sunday of Calvary’s hosting week. Volunteers will set up the accommodations, i.e.; dining and sleeping areas on Sunday afternoon before the guests arrive. On the last day of Calvary’s rotation Setup and Takedown volunteers will also make sure the bedding and personal property of the guests is staged in the North Fellowship Room and co-ordinate delivery of these items to the next hosting church.
-
Supplies Providers:
These volunteers will provide donations of milk, juice, peanut butter, bread, and snack items for the guests use.
-
