Calvary Lutheran Church began as a small group of devoted Christians gathered under the guidance of Pastor Baglien in 1956. They grew into Calvary Lutheran Church and soon broke ground and began to build the beautiful sanctuary we still enjoy.

After 25 years of worshipping together and growing in God’s love, the membership was ready for new endeavors and more space. The new project would bring to Calvary an opportunity to reach out to young families through the new Preschool.

Fellowship rooms were added so members and guests could gather comfortably. The church began to open the building to other groups such as A.A., TOPS, and The Red Cross, touching even more lives.

We continue with a renewed vision for Calvary, today. Our outreach continues with the Preschool and has grown as we work with Family Bridge, a transition program for homeless families, Centro Cultural, a Latino Community Center, St. Matthew’s food cupboard, Western Farmworkers which provides outreach services to migrant farm workers, and Homeplate, an outreach to homeless youth.

One of our successful endeavors is a Community Garden built in partnership with the Hillsboro Parks Department, SOLV, and lots of volunteers from the community. The Community Garden is now in its second season serving residents of Hillsboro who love to garden and needed a beautiful place to grow.

Our most recent project was to provide welcoming space for all who enter Calvary’s building. This welcoming, easy to access entrance now provides a bright, comfortable room for members and guests to meet and share the joys and struggles of their lives in an atmosphere of dignity and God’s grace.
